The LISA-CPI model analyzes the molecular structure of drugs as well as 3D models of pain receptors to predict their interactions. One example is the drug methylergometrine, which is typically used to treat migraines but may now play a role in pain treatment by targeting specific receptors.
Additionally, the researchers have discovered that certain gut bacteria can interact with pain receptors in a way that might be beneficial for pain management. This approach opens a new path for discovering painkillers that minimize the risk of addiction—an issue that has become extremely pressing amidst the global opioid crisis.
